‘The study of geography is about more than just memorising places on a map. It’s about understanding the complexity of our world, appreciating the diversity of cultures that exist across continents. And in the end, it’s about using all that knowledge to help bridge divides and bring people together.

-Barak Obama, National Geographic Bee 2012

At Tudor Academy, our Geography curriculum is driven by our motto, 'Inspiring Excellence for All,' and is deeply rooted in our values of collaboration, creativity, and communication. These foundational principles guide our approach to teaching geography, emphasising the importance of teamwork, innovative thinking, and effective communication skills. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment that respects diversity and promotes anti-racism, ensuring that every student can connect with the material and see themselves reflected in the curriculum.

Curriculum Intent and Structure
Our Geography curriculum is designed to gradually build students' geographical knowledge and skills. Beginning with familiar surroundings, such as London, the curriculum expands to encompass broader contexts, including England, Europe, South America, and Africa. This structured approach helps students develop a strong sense of place and understand the interconnectedness of their local area with the wider world. We prioritise providing rich, high-quality learning experiences that challenge students to critically engage with geographical concepts.

Educational Approach and Skills Development
Students are encouraged to explore and question their environment, both local and global. The curriculum is designed to develop key geographical skills, such as map reading, understanding spatial relationships, and recognising the impact of human and physical geography. By integrating these skills across various topics, students learn to analyse and interpret geographical data, understand different perspectives, and communicate their findings effectively. We also focus on developing a specific geographical vocabulary, enhancing students' ability to articulate their understanding of complex concepts.

Inclusivity and Broader Perspectives
Our curriculum reflects a commitment to inclusivity and the representation of diverse cultures and regions. Students engage with a range of geographical topics, from physical geography, such as climate zones and natural resources, to human geography, including cultural practices and economic activities. This comprehensive exploration allows students to appreciate the diversity of the world's landscapes and societies, fostering a sense of global citizenship and respect for different cultures.
